Stencil Sunday: Nostalgic NYC

One of my favorite ways to use stencils is with embossing paste, and I'm a big fan of Izink Diamond Glitter Paints by Aladine, which are coming verrrrry soon to The Ink Pad. I love the versatility of this product: If you brush it on smoothly it works like paint... but if you spread it through a stencil with a palette knife, it will stay dimensional! (You can even use it on fabric, if you heat set it.) On this card I've used Argent/Silver with The Ink Pad's exclusive Fishtail Pattern Stencil by Michelle Ward on top of Idea-ology Silver Metallic Cardstock for a fabulous diamond plate look. We also have Aladine's Izink Texture Pastes in non-glittery metallics which give an equally cool, but slightly different effect.
Once my Fishtail Pattern was thoroughly dry, I tore the metallic cardstock diagonally and adhered it to a gel print which I had been on the point of discarding, because the images were quite smudgy. The colors were lovely, though, and matched my vintage map; so I rescued the print and used it to make a background panel for my mint green A6 card. I even used a little snippet of the same print to trace the letters NYC from Michelle's Manhole Covers II Stencil, which I then cut out with scissors and matted with a scrap of the silver metallic cardstock.

My focal point is a little collage of vintage images: an old street map of New York which I diecut into a label shape; a black and white photo of the Chrysler Building from an old guidebook, and a lovely 1930's automobile, which conveys the nostalgic feeling of Manhattan in the middle of the last century.
Remember that The Ink Pad is located at the corner of 7th Avenue and 13th Street in Manhattan; but The Ink Pad Online Store is just a click away!
