I love New York. That is both a statement of fact and a reference to one of The Ink Pad's exclusive Michelle Ward stamps, which I've used to make a card as colorful as the city itself.
The gel plate is such a great way to make a fun and funky background. I randomly added lots of patches of color with pastels, then used quite a thin coat of white acrylic paint to pull the print. There were one or two larger voids where the color did not lift, so that's where I placed the skyline from Michelle's Skyline Stamp Set. Whenever I'm working on top of an unfamiliar medium, I like to stamp with StazOn Ink because it's solvent-based and will dry permanently on pretty much any surface.
The stencil is a bit hidden in the background this time. I basically used the Large Hex Pattern as patterned paper, but it's beautiful all the same. This particular gel print was a "clean up" print and thus somewhat patchy, so I outlined the hexies with a fine point Pitt Artist Pen and added a shadow with a grey brush marker.
I wanted the "I♥NY" stamp to hover right above the skyline, so I fussy-cut and used the Crop-A-Dile to add one set of round eyelets to the edges of the buildings and one set to the sentiment. Then I threaded a little bit of floss through and tied it in a bow.
I'll be doing some lettering at The Ink Pad's Seventh Avenue store today from 1-4pm, why not stop by try out the brand new Karin Metallic Markers... I guarantee you will looooooooove them as much as I do! ♥
