I never seem to get tired of using Michelle Ward's exclusive line of stencils and stamps for The Ink Pad. Somehow new combinations of images, formats and color palettes keep popping into my head, a bit like an artistic game of Clue, lol. For example, how about: NYC Tourist Stencil with the Skyline Stamp Set, in pastel rainbow shades, on a giant tag?! :)
The NYC Tourist Stencil is 8.5 x 11" (as are all the stencils in this line) which makes it ideal for mixed media, journals, working on a full-size gel plate, etc. But I love to use it on smaller projects, as well, like this 5 x 7" tag. To make it "fit" I either reposition the stencil to snug up a bit, or let the words run off the edge. Either way, I think you get the vibe of the whole stencil.
All of the unmounted stamp sets in this series come on 8.5 x 5.5" backers, so in the case of the Skyline Stamp Set, the eponymous skyline is about 4.5 x 2.25"; big enough to make an impact, but small enough to fit on cards or tags or anything else that needs a bit of NYC glamour!
I made my tag out of plain white cardstock, cut to size. I used my Picket Fence Studio Blender Brushes to make a soft pastel background using Tumbled Glass, Squeezed Lemonade and Spun Sugar Distress Oxide Inks, letting the colors blend a bit where they overlapped. I added the words with darker Oxide shades, re-positioning the stencil and changing color each time. Towards the bottom of the tag I used a strip of gel print overlayed with beautiful geometrically patterned White Lace Gem Tape to anchor a small collage of stamped and fussy-cut elements, including the Skyline, I Love NY (which are also available as individual wood mount stamps) and a bunch of the manholes from the Mini Manhole Stamp Set. I punched a few extra stamped manholes into heart shapes and let them float up to the top of the tag, which has a jaunty tassel made from multicolored baker's twine.
I hope you'll be inspired to combine your favorite Michelle Ward + The Ink Pad products in new and interesting ways, or maybe even treat yourself to some new ones?! ♥
really misses NYC!
