I love making my own patterned paper! It means I can customize my colors to match any embellishment perfectly AND my cards will have their own distinctive look. For this funky autumnal plaid I broke out my Koi Watercolor Field Set and Canson Watercolor Paper and went to town. Painting plaid is easy and fun! Use a few different brushes to vary the size of your lines, and be sure to alternate horizontals and verticals. For a crisp look, let each successive set of lines dry before adding more color. For even more detail, wait until your paper is completely dry, and use a ballpoint, gel or paint pen to add even more variation in the "threads" of your plaid.
I had been planning to stamp a sentiment, but then I got my hands on a beautiful metallic copper Karin Decobrush Pen and I couldn't resist a bit of handlettering. Here's a tip to take your own lettering to the next level: Outline your letters with a finepoint pen, like Faber-Castell's Pitt Artist Pens... this lets you neaten up any little mistakes! A brush pen shadow and a white paint pen highlight are also fun. To finish off my card I diecut the sentiment using nested label dies and added my Eyelet Outlet Pumpkin Brads. A double strip of woodgrain washi tape and some Eyelet Outlet Swirl Bling and my A2 card was ready to roll!
Now bring on the Pumpkin Spice Treats! ♥
