And we're celebrating at The Ink Pad because we have all three sets of Dina Wakley's awesome Scribble Sticks back in stock, in limited quantities, and ready to ship immediately from the NJ branch office! Including the fabulous Set #3, which has the metallic colors that Dina demonstrated in her April 30th Demo With Dina Session on The Art of Dina Wakley FaceBook page, in which The Ink Pad was featured as Store Spotlight.
This mandala was created with shades from the original set of Scribble Sticks (aka Set 1) (though I was one of the many people who texted Anna during the demo to say I NEED THE METALLICS lol!) I used a limited palette of analagous colors; mostly Magenta, Ruby, Tangerine and Lemon. I worked on a background of vintage text paper that I backed with plain cardstock to make it a little stronger. I was worried that either the vintage ink of the text would run OR the paper would fall apart when I laid down quite a bit of color with wet Scribble Sticks and then used a waterbrush to move the color around, but it stood up really well!
After the basic shapes were thoroughly dry I added some very faint pattern with some of Michelle Ward's Mini Manhole Cover Stamps in Dried Marigold Distress Oxide (which is very pale and a bit hard to see in the photo, sorry!)
It's always fun to add some dots and lines with a few shades of Posca Pen also... (here's one of my mandala secrets!) I often use the dots, patterns and thicker lines as a "cover up" when I have made a mistake! Finally, I did a bit of outlining with a Stabilo Pencil and a Pigma Micron pen.
The Art of Dina Wakley FB Page features a free, one-hour, live video demo every Tuesday and Thursday at 1pm Eastern; with a different topic and a different featured independent art supply shop each time. Since Dina is one of the most inspiring teachers of all time, we highly recommend tuning in when she's live, or replaying the archived video later!
And of course we'd love for you to come and shop for your fun Dina Wakley Media goodies, plus lots of other fun Ranger Products by Tim Holtz, Dyan Reaveley, Seth Apter and more... available from The Ink Pad Online!
