...Wake Up in the City That Never Sleeps!" as Frank Sinatra sang so memorably. At the moment, New York is not quite the hustling, bustling metropolis we all love and grumble about in equal measure. I definitely never expected to miss traffic or a crowded commuter train! In the two months which have elapsed since the last time I was at The Ink Pad in the new Chelsea location, I've even found myself feeling nostalgic for things that usually make me complain the most. But I know we will be back there again, hopefully before too long. In the meantime I'm making projects that send good vibes to my favorite town!
I have had this Idea-Ology Assemblage Clock for a while, and had lots of vague ideas of how to fill it; but nothing made me super-excited until we got this set of Creative Expressions City Skyline Dies, which are serendipitously exactly the right size! They are also amongst the increasing stock of fabulous new items which are in our New Jersey branch office and thus able to ship immediately when you order them at The Ink Pad Online!
Since the dies are so beautifully detailed, I didn't need much else. I did cut quite a few repeats of the smaller dies in various configurations, and stacked them at the back of the clock on layers of foam tape, to create the illusion of buildings as far as the eye can see. I cut some of my layers from Idea-Ology Metallic Jewels Cardstock and some from American Crafts Glitter Paper to approximate the effect of the sun reflecting off all of that metal and glass at Golden Hour in midtown. I made a sunset sky background by using my Picket Fence Studio Life Changing Blender Brushes to combine several shades of Distress Oxide Inks: Spiced Marmalade, Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet and Chipped Sapphire, to be precise. And finally I added one layer of cityscape and one layer of Lawn Fawn Pearlescent Vellum cut into a cloud shape right against the glass front, with the lyrics from the song typed on my 1938 Olympia Typewriter.
One of these mornings we will wake up and find that our city is back in "Never Sleep" mode and when that happens, I'll meet you at The Ink Pad! ♥
loves New York!
