Floral Fantasy

I'm absolutely smitten with AlteNew's beautiful Persian Motifs Stamp Set, which I got (surprise!) at The Ink Pad! The set has three different lotus-like flower groupings, plus a bunch of extra leaves and swirls, and four useful sentiments in an understated font.
Whenever I have new stamps to play with, I tend to grab the MISTI; especially if I want to experiment with different combinations of ink and embossing powder; I can set up a nice stamp layout... then try lots of variations! I like Delicata's Silvery Shimmer Ink very much indeed, especially clear embossed. This was also my first time using Seth Apter's Vintage Beeswax Baked Texture and I love how it looks with some of the softer shades of Distress Oxide Inks. The watercolored image in the photo below is Vintage Beeswax over Antique Linen Distress Oxide-- a beautiful and subtle alternative to using a white or clear resist.
But my main card today features WOW! Metallic Gold Sparkle Embossing Powder and Clear Embossing Ink and it really is INCREDIBLY sparkly! The metallic powder is also just the tiniest bit rough to the touch, which is fine for your fingers and envelopes, but can be slightly hard on the tips of your markers! So rather than color the images directly with my Karin Brushmarkers, I chose to scribble color onto a smooth acrylic sleeve and then pick it up with a waterbrush. This method also lets me get much more subtle blended effects. As with any watercolor effect, though, it really helps to build your layers gradually, by applying the lightest shades first and allowing them to dry in between.
When all the flowers and leaves were fully colored and completely dry, I added some splatters of the softest green shade of marker, by picking the color up with my brush and flicking it at the paper. Once that was dry, I inked around the edges with Crushed Olive Distress Oxide Ink and added one of the sentiments from the Persian Motifs set, stamped in Candied Apple Oxide.
There are lots more fabulous stamps, dies and stencils from AlteNew at The Ink Pad, you're sure to find the perfect inspiration for your next beautiful card!
