It's February 13th, which seems like a good time for one last silly Valentine, don't you think? This one combines Michelle Ward's Hex Pattern Stencil, Eyelet Outlet Heart and Mini Bee Brads, plus a few of my favorite pens... all of which can be found at The Ink Pad, of course!
I've mentioned before how much I love the Zig Dot Markers for making dot art, but it hadn't occurred to me that they would also be GREAT for lettering because the nice fat, consistent line you get is quite different from a brush pen or an ordinary marker, as you can see in the word, "Valentine". I used an N60 Tombow DualBrush Pen (coming soon to The Ink Pad) to place a shadow to the right of all the vertical lines and beneath the horizontal lines. Uni's Emott Fine Point Pens are also arriving imminently and they are quite wonderful! I used the black .4 fine point to add the "bee trails". Once the lettering was complete I did the most important step for working with brads, which is to dry fit them and snap a photo:
I actually needed a second take on this card, because of layer logistics. So I will save you some time by mentioning that you need to lay down the stenciled hexagon pattern first in pale yellow ink, and then do the lettering and shadow, and then at the very end, outline the hexagons using the fine point end of the same yellow Zig Dot Marker, skipping the parts that are directly behind the letters and shadows.
There are new items arriving every week, so be sure to check out The Ink Pad's Manhattan location and also The Ink Pad Online!
ALL the pens! :)
